 See and learn about the nation’s Capital City on electric bikes! Explore the National Mall lined with Smithsonian Museums and adorned at either end with the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol Building. Or cruise around the Tidal Basin and experience the awe-inspiring monuments.  On April 14, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln was in the audience at Ford’s Theatre, one of the most popular playhouses in Washington. Everyone was laughing at a funny line from Tom Taylor’s celebrated comedy, Our American Cousin, when John Wilkes Booth crept into the President’s Box, shot the president, and leapt to the stage, shouting, “Sic semper tyrannis!” (“Thus ever to tyrants!”) With his left leg broken from the jump, Booth mounted his horse in the alley and galloped off. Doctors carried Lincoln across the street to the house of William Petersen, where the president died the next morning.  You will receive a full tour of the theatre and learn more of the history behind the story.

 The Washington Monument is the tallest building in the Washington D.C. area, and located at the heart of the National Mall. Take an elevator 555 feet up for terrific views of the entire District. 

The Washington Monument, designed by Robert Mills and eventually completed by Thomas Casey and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, honors and memorializes George Washington at the center of the nation's capital. The structure was completed in two phases of construction, one private (1848-1854) and one public (1876-1884). Built in the shape of an Egyptian obelisk, evoking the timelessness of ancient civilizations, the Washington Monument embodies the awe, respect, and gratitude the nation felt for its most essential Founding Father. When completed, the Washington Monument was the tallest building in the world at 555 feet, 5-1/8 inches.
